                                                                      What is a GWAS?
A genome-wide association study (GWAS) looks across the entire genome (a.k.a. all of an animal's DNA) to check for any genetic pattern that fits closely with a specific trait, like a Doberman-specific disease such as Wobbler's Disease or Dilated Cardiomyopathy. It's hunting for a disease by checking the source - the DNA. These studies are more powerful than many other genetic approaches because they are so detailed and complete.

In late October 2016, Embark Veterinary and the Doberman Diversity Project (DDP) agreed to work together to conduct a powerful Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS) to examine the DNA of 1,000 Dobermans from across the globe, with the goal of recruiting at least 400 dogs actually affected by the target disease. With Embark at the helm and DDP steering the course, this comprehensive approach and targeted focus on Doberman health will revolutionize at every level the way genomics are used for the benefit of the breed.

The disease we are targeting requires your input. Doberman Pinschers unfortunately suffer many genetic maladies, and we have yet to select our target disease. Share your thoughts on which Doberman disease should be the subject of this new GWAS! Submit your thoughts now on what disease should be the focus of this study by submitting the form below.

Want to see EBVs? For what? Want to see "grades" of virtual litters? What else? Give as much detail as you care to provide. THANK YOU!
Choose ONE disease you think we should study -- but be sure that it's a disease you believe we can find 400 affected dogs to include in our study!
